What does Lara Croft mean to you?
Lara Croft Is the epitome of British class, beauty and strength. She's an independent and ambitious female version of Indiana Jones. Her fearlessness and adventurous nature takes her on all kinds of journeys across the globe. She is proficient in many languages and is highly educated. Lara has been created to fulfill the ultimate fantasy character for both men and women. Lara's got it all.

Is your personality similar to Lara Croft in any way?
I certainly hope so!
As well as indulging my feminine side, I'm also a tomboy at heart who loves to be challenged in sport and adventure. I always welcome the opportunity to travel and discover new cultures. I also liken myself to Lara with my dry sense of humour, I think we like to give our men a hard time!

Do you play computer games?
One of the first computer games I ever played was Tomb Raider with my sister, and we were addicted to it! Unfortunately I don't get to play as often as I would like these days.

Lara loves to travel, where has your job taken you to in the world?
I have been lucky enough to travel to Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Holland and Czech Republic.

How did you feel when you found out that you had won the role of being the new face of Lara Croft?
It's probably been the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me. I pinch myself and I still can't believe it! I remember the last day of auditions and leaving the Eidos offices with feelings of uncertainty. The competition was high and I knew the final decision would be difficult. I was so anxious when I received the call and almost couldn't believe what I was hearing when they told me I was going to be the new face of Lara Croft. I'm so glad I made it, I'm so glad to be here!

What do your friends and family think of you as Lara Croft?
Well my dad LOVE'S it and my sisters are envious! I've become strangely popular within my family and friends lately, I wonder why?

Meet the new Lara Croft

MOVE over Angelina Jolie – there's a new girl in town.

Former shop worker Karima Adebibe is today unveiled as the latest face — and body — of Lara Croft.

The curvy cyberbabe is the star of a string of hit computer games which have shifted more than 28million copies.

The all-action Tomb Raider titles have also spawned two Hollywood blockbusters starring Angelina as the latex-clad heroine.

Pin-ups Rhona Mitra, Jill De Jong and Nell McAndrew are among the beauties who have fronted the British-owned £1BILLION gaming business since Lara first hit PlayStation consoles in 1996.

It's a dream come true for the 20-year-old brunette, who reveals she's a big fan of Angelina.

But she adds: "I'm more than a match for her and I'd love to take Angelina on one on one to see who's the toughest."

Landing the modelling role means Karima will become a fantasy figure for millions of fellas — yet she reckons her hot new look may be too much for her own man.

The picture above will be the first chance musician boyfriend Terry, 27, has had to see his girl in Lara's famous tight-fitting outfit.

She says: "Terry is happy I got the job and very proud of me. But I don't think he is going to enjoy all the attention, which is understandable.

"He hasn't seen me pictured as Lara. I've not taken the costume home either, but maybe I will.

"I think he would be scared of it, though! There's a lot of latex and I've got guns and grenades. I'm already the dominant one in the relationship, so just imagine if I showed up as Lara Croft — I reckon he would cry!"

Karima lives with her mum in Bethnal Green in London's East End.

She was born in the UK then brought up in Morocco before returning to the UK when she was seven.

She has been signed up to play the heroine ahead of the seventh game in the famous series — Tomb Raider: Legend — which is due out in April.

Karima, who appeared briefly in the movie Alien Vs Predator and had modelled for Coca-Cola, accepts landing the Lara role is a "huge break."

It also saved her career.

She admits: "It has taken me a long time to get here. I was about to quit modelling. Going to all the castings was getting a bit tiresome and I wanted to do photography.

"Then this happened. It must have been a sign to stick with it.

Karima will now go on a worldwide tour to promote the new game, starting in America next week followed by visits to Canada and Europe, including the UK.

She says: "Lara Croft is one of the sexiest women on the planet so to be cast as her is such a huge compliment. At the audition I had to get into the costume and the first time was very nerve-racking. But it is so empowering and exciting to realise you are about to become a fantasy figure."

Lara first appeared as a video game character ten years ago and she has gone on to become one of the most recognisable icons in the industry.

Last year Eidos, which owns the rights to the Lara Croft franchise, was bought by rival British firm SCI in a deal valued at more than £100million, creating one of the world's leading games publishers.

Legend is the first instalment in the series for three years and is expected to be bought by a million fans in the UK alone.

Images of treasure hunter Lara have appeared on everything from action figures to motorcycle helmets and pyjamas. There is even a tulip named after her.

Karima adds: "I have to act as Lara, so I am having elocution lessons and learning how to be a lady all over again. I've also got to go on an SAS training course and learn how to ride a motorcycle.

"Becoming Lara means being strong, ladylike yet rugged and very sexy. As Lara I can do anything I want and not have to explain it. After all, who is going to mess with me?"

Mind you, Karima's all-action lifestyle has not gone completely to plan.

She giggles: "I did my motorcycle exam last week and failed because I crashed into a fence.

"I ended up with a few bruises and the bike was stuck so hard under the fence the instructor had to drag it out."

Image consultant Debbie Lash has worked with every other Lara Croft, including superstar Angelina. And she believes Karima has that "something special" needed to carry off this demanding role.

"It's no mean feat following on from Angelina," she says. "The model has to have a great look but also a good personality as they are in contact with fans of all ages.

"You'll get some girls with a great face but they also need to have athletic prowess.

"Karima's eyes stood out and she's very down to earth."

Lara Weller and Lucy Clarkson are the other models to have played the role.

But while she is ecstatic, there is another man in her life who has a slight worry.

She says: "My mum was very happy for me but Dad said, ‘Oh dear, what are you going to be wearing?' "

Mr Adebibe, this page may come as a bit of a shock too.

An unknown sales assistant and model has been plucked from obscurity to become the new international public face of action hero Lara Croft.

Karima Adebibe, 20, from Bethnal Green, east London, was chosen following a worldwide search for a roving ambassador to represent Lara for the launch of the next video game.

The Top Shop assistant will be the latest name to represent the archaeologist and action hero since Angelina Jolie starred as Lara in the Tomb Raider movies.

Adebibe will travel the globe for the next two years as the public face of the game, whose previous ambassadors include Nell McAndrew.

The self-confessed tomboy will embark on a gruelling training programme, including an SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapon-firing course in Eastern Europe. She will also take a crash course in archaeology, deportment, elocution and etiquette lessons so she can portray the 11th generation Countess.

Adebibe said: "This is an incredible opportunity for me and one which I plan to grasp with both hands.

"It's a huge challenge to follow in the footsteps of people like Nell McAndrew and Angelina Jolie, but life is all about challenges and this is perhaps the biggest one for a model and actress."

Tomb Raider brand controller Matt Gorman said: "Karima has all the assets needed to accurately portray the world's favourite female action hero.

"Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend sees Lara at the very height of her powers. This makes Karima the 7th and most important Lara Croft yet."

The seventh game in the hit Lara Croft series will see Lara return to her tomb-raiding roots. Previous names to slip into the iconic Lara Croft outfit also include Lucy Clarkson, Rhona Mitra, Vanessa Demouy and Lara Weller.
