Story

In this fourth major installment in the series, Lara Croft returns to her roots...in more ways than one. First, the training levels are set in Cambodia in 1984, where a teenage Lara learns the basics from experienced archeologist-adventurer Werner Von Croy. (He later figures in the main storyline, set in the present day.) In the process, new players learn to move Lara through her environment, and we meet Von Croy, who also figures in the main plotline, set in the present day.

Fans of the original Tomb Raider will also be pleased to find a return to the ancient ruins and puzzle-based gameplay that got us hooked in the first place. The main story begins at the Temple of Set. Lara raids this tomb to obtain an amulet, only to find that, in doing so, she unwittingly unleashes the evil god into the world. Now she'll have to re-bind him into his tomb in order to save humanity. While there are a variety of locations-indoor and outdoors, city streets, desert canyons and abandoned ruins-all the action takes place in Egypt. The scenery is breathtaking and, though this game is less combat-oriented than the previous two installments, there's still plenty of action.
